Driven by their passion for delicious food and local flavors, commitment to cultural understanding, and desire to promote small family/female-run projects, Lamia and Jamie created Sawa Taste of Tunisia after meeting in Kobet Lagha, near Nabeul, in 2023.

Lamia Temimi

Born in Tunisia to an Algerian father and Sicilian mother, Lamia embodies the convergence of Mediterranean cultures in Tunisia. After twenty years spent traveling the world working in the high-end hotel industry, she now runs a bed and breakfast on a farm in the heart of the Nabeul countryside, a quarter of an hour from the beaches of the Cap Bon, while also working as a sustainable tourism consultant. She is fluent in Arabic, French, English and Italian.

Jamie Furniss

Growing up in Canada's far north where his mother was a camp cook and his father a bush pilot, Jamie developed an early passion for North African culture and the Arabic language. He holds a PhD in International Development from Oxford University, and spent many years living in Egypt and Tunisia as an academic anthropologist, working mainly on topics related to the environment. Sawa Taste of Tunisia is a way for him to share his passion for the culture and cuisine of the southern shores of the Mediterranean from Marseille, which he now calls home.

Our ingredients

Participatory sensory experiences. Be prepared to discover new flavors and smells, delight your taste buds, learn new skills and techniques in the kitchen, and take home recipes to delight your friends and family.

Genuine human encounters. Preparing and sharing of food is a precious and unique ritual that unites people everywhere. Using food as an entry point to explore culture and history, we delve into the stories of the people and places behind what we taste and prepare.

An ethic of respect. We stand by the principle that our kitchen and our table should be coherent with our values and express our respect for the produce we eat, the environment that provides it, and the people who gather and prepare it. Haya bismillah !
